The Master Gardener

John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.  … 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.

God is the gardener. Jesus is the vine. We are the branches.

The 15th chapter of John is full of wonderful illustrations of our relationship with Jesus and God. If we really sit and let this information sink into our spirit, it should give us great comfort. We do not have to master plan a whole garden, we don’t need to know how to fix the problems that come along, we don’t have to worry about where our sustenance will come from, we don’t even really need to worry about which direction we are going. The only thing the gardener asks of us is to bear fruit in the place he has put us.

This is what we do. We plug into Jesus, let him provide what we need and when we need it. We allow God to prune us when we start going in the wrong direction, and when we’ve been trained in the correct way, we grow in it. As the things that suck life from us or make us sick are removed and as we stay attached to the source of our strength, we will be healthy. And as we continue to grow as a healthy branch, the fruit we produce will be plentiful. This is a promise from Jesus. This is the end goal of the master gardener.

Be fruitful!
