A Party?

Continuing our theme on Love Rejoices, we wanted to address celebrating.

Jesus went to parties. He performed his first miracle by helping out with a low supply of wine (would have embarrassed the host – John 2) at a wedding feast. The Jews had a set of festivals that were national events. A lot of Jesus parables are centered around a party or celebration (check out Luke 14 and 15). Jesus got invited to many feasts by prominent members of society.

Sometimes Christians get a bit of a they-aren’t-allowed-to-have-fun reputation. While it is true that we don’t need to have fun the same way the world does, we do have so many things to celebrate! Gathering together with family, friends, and our Christian brothers and sisters doesn’t have to be a boring affair. We can enjoy each other and our blessings! Jesus knew how to have a good time without sinning and I believe we can too.

And guess what else? We have an amazing feast and party to look forward to. In Revelation 19 we get a foreshadowing of the wedding feast of the lamb, and we – the believers – are the bride.

Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

Revelation 19

We can rejoice over such great news.
Love rejoices!
