Have you noticed that people seem to be a little preoccupied with eating? It is natural in some ways because we do physically need to eat a few meals a day in order for our bodies to function in a healthy way. And we do have to plan in order to make that happen. But we seem to over do it a little bit. We like to eat, we like to eat things that taste good or are enjoyable. We like to share meals with friends and family. Almost all my family’s holidays are centered around a large meal. Every other ad you see is probably related to something to eat or a diet plan or a way to shed those extra pounds from over eating. Many of the health issues we have are related to our diets.
As with most things, I think the need to eat is all part of God’s plan. He created our bodies to need food because there is a spiritual parallel. Our spirits need to be fed as well. And just as we can feed our bodies junk, we have the same option of feeding our spirits things that are unhealthy. We should spend the same amount of time, energy, and money on feeding our spirit that we do on feeding our bodies. We should do checkups to make sure our spirit is healthy and get on meal plans when we need to focus on consuming the right things.
Here’s the takeaway today. Jesus said (John 6:35) ““I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” This weekend most Christians will be celebrating Jesus’ birth. Jesus, the bread of heaven, was born as a baby and placed in an animal’s feeding trough. Coincidence? No way! God was telling the world to pay attention.
Christmas is a great time to start a spiritual meal plan. Consider what you have been consuming lately. Do you need to go on a diet? Are you getting enough Jesus? God promises that if we ‘chew’ on his word, we will not go away empty. Fill up on the good stuff and be blessed!
