Lifelong Learning

Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
for gaining wisdom and instruction;
    for understanding words of insight;
for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
    doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to those who are simple,
    knowledge and discretion to the young—
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
    and let the discerning get guidance—
for understanding proverbs and parables,
    the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
    but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Do you want to be wise? Take some advice from the man who could have asked anything from God, but asked for wisdom. And because God was pleased with this request, he blessed Solomon beyond what anyone could have imagined. King Solomon’s first proverb, his first suggestion for the son that was to follow in his footsteps, is for that son to gain wisdom and instruction. To continue to learn, to continue to grow, to read through his book of wisdom sayings, to meditate on God’s instructions. That even when he thought he was wise enough, that there was more to know and for him to keep learning.

I’m pretty sure these are good suggestions for us as well. Even in the tremendously overloaded information age where we can ask Google just about any question and get an answer, we still need to be teachable and growing. We still need to be wise in how to use that knowledge. Let us not be fools, but let us honor God and pursue wisdom and instruction. I believe God will bless our efforts!
