A parent soothes a crying baby by picking them up and cuddling them. A mother kisses away an owie on a toddler’s knee. A valiant father sprays monster repellent in a young child’s closet. Couples hold hands during scary moments. We take a friend or loved one with us when we are facing a medical test or procedure. We do not just say “I love you, it will be alright.” We have to be present, to do something. And when we act, the fear in our loved ones is driven out.
But here is the best news. The God who created the universe, the embodiment of the true meaning of love, makes us some amazing promises about our fear. He says he will never leave us or forsake us. He promises to provide for our needs and protect us. He tells us he will work all circumstances for our good. He says that we are precious to him. Read his love letter to us, these promises and many more are there.
Christians* need not fear anything on this earth. We can walk through these and any turbulent times in peace because we know who is with us and who is holding our hand. We can run and jump fearlessly into our Father’s arms because he has promised to catch us. Perfect love casts out fear! 1 John 4:18
