Matthew 26:28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
In our culture today, we think that it is a little weird when verses talk about blood and sacrifice. However, the bible tells us that the penalty for sin is death and, following that, separation from God because he is holy and we cannot enter his presence in an unrighteous state. God allowed the Israelites the systems of sacrifice in order to provide a way for the blood of a lamb or other animal to pay for their sins so they could be forgiven and be able to come into God’s presence again. This, in turn, set us (the rest of the world) up for the sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus was perfect, he never sinned. He gave his life to pay for our sins because his death made the perfect sacrifice that meant we don’t have to continue to sacrifice animals anymore. One death, one sacrifice was able to cover everyone’s sin because it was perfect and because it paid in blood what we should have owed with our own lives.
As the verses above state, Jesus blood offers us redemption. We just need to accept it. He has left us a ticket to heaven at the will call booth, but we have to go pick it up. We have to want it. We cling to the hope presented in Jesus’ death, the offer he gave us, and thank God for his grace and forgiveness. This allows us to have a relationship with God. With Jesus covering us, we can ‘go to the throne room’ and spend time with our creator.
This is what Jesus wants, he gave everything to point us to the father and pave the way for our forgiveness. This is what God wants. He wants you to accept that Jesus already did the hard work. He wants to forgive you so you can walk with him and talk with him. Our God is love and love forgives!
