By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
John 13:35
When someone has a crush, it is usually pretty obvious to others despite them trying to downplay it. When someone is having a hard day or is upset about something, their friends usually know that something is off, even if they don’t want to talk about it. Strong feelings are hard to hide.
Real love is the best of strong feelings and it can’t be hidden. The love of God, agape, is not a physical attraction or an enjoyment of something like cake. We’ve been posting about God’s love for four months and haven’t even scratched the surface of all of what it is and isn’t.
When we can love like Jesus loved, other people will notice! Jesus says in John 13 (above) that just the act of loving each other is an evangelistic tool. We don’t even have to tell people the gospel because they will be drawn to the “something different” about the way we treat our fellow Christians. Love shows! He says something very similar in Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” People will give God the glory when they see the ‘light’ of love showing in our lives. Solomon – wisest and richest king of Israel said it like this: Song of Solomon 8:7 “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it.”
When we have been given love, it will show! When we show love to others, it cannot be quenched! People will notice. It will be the proof that we are his disciples. They will know we are Christians by our love. Love shows!
