Pastor’s Blog

Is your yard growing as fast as mine right now?  Perhaps you have a garden that is growing really well?  Spring is a blessing!  I love the cooler temperatures and lush, green plants.  But with this peak season of growth also comes added responsibilities: mowing, weeding, watering, repeat.

We love organic growth, but the Garden of Eden needed to be worked too, even before the fall. This work is not to be considered a curse, it is a blessing!

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.  Genesis 2:15

Growth in a garden, in a church, or in your life, must be cultivated and worked.  We must nurture and guard the things that are pleasing to God and beneficial to our spiritual growth, and we must weed out the things that are harmful.  Otherwise, we become an overgrown mess, and the garden begins to resemble the wild again.

Plainly speaking, the things in your life to nurture are: worship, prayer, and reading God’s Word.  If you do not guard these things ruthlessly, then the head Gardener will eventually come and start over (please read Isaiah 5).

So work your spiritual lawn and garden this Spring.  Do not allow other things, even seemingly good things, to overwhelm you.  As Jesus said to Martha in Luke 10:

41 “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Please, spend time with Jesus every day and we would love to see you at our Easter service on Sunday at 10:30am.

Love you,
Nate Moehring
