I have seen this meme various times. I don’t know who the original author is but I am glad they created it. It was drawn to show that we should pray for one another, but it also illustrates very succinctly how we can ‘carry one another’s burdens’ (Gal 6:1-2). When we all work together, it isn’t hard to help the one who needs to be carried at that moment. And no matter how much of a planner someone is, everyone needs to take a turn being carried at some point.
Our lesson for the week is responsibility and accountability. As King Solomon so wisely puts it in Ecclesiastes 4:
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
We need each other. When we choose to ‘do life’ with other people, we are accepting the responsibility to help carry life’s heavy load. And when people choose to ‘do life’ with us they are offering accountability to carry us when we need it. This is the beauty of a community, this is the way God designed us. Let us learn to be responsible and accountable to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us show the world how to love each other well!
Amen!!!
