What fruit are you growing on your tree? Are you actively trying to cultivate the fruit of love? Can love grow? How?
Well, the bible tells us that one of the fruits of the spirit is love and there are verses like 2 Thessalonians 1:3b that tell us love can grow. “Your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.” But does the bible tell us how to grow our love? I think so. I would like to suggest that just like most things in life, we have to practice to get better. We need fellowship with other believers where we can be honest with each other. We aren’t always going to get along, but when conflicts arise, instead of just walking away we can learn to navigate those difficult conversations and come out on the other side still committed to each other. When we can do that, our love grows. We need to work alongside each other for a common goal and when we do that, our love grows. We need to encourage each other when life gets hard and when we do that, our love grows. We need to carry each other’s burdens, and our love grows. We need to know that even when we are a mess, we have the support of our church family and a safe place to melt down, and a support group to give a hand up off the floor. Proverbs 27:7 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Let us encourage each other to grow love in our gardens. Let us help each other prune away the dead and rotten fruit or the branches that aren’t really producing anything but are sucking a lot of energy away. Let us remind each other that love is from God and he will help us grow it if we will just be obedient.
Our tagline is Get It, Grow It, Give It. We believe love grows as we ‘do life’ with each other in our small groups. Give one a try and see how love grows!
