How do you identify yourself? Most of us would give our name or a nickname. But is that your identity? How would you describe yourself? Character traits, physical traits, morals, things you have accomplished, who you are related to, where you live, or what nationality you have could all answer this question.
Would the phrase “child of God” or “heir to God’s kingdom” come out of your mouth? How often do you think about the fact that if you have ‘identified’ yourself with Jesus then you have been redeemed and been made righteous before God?
This week we have been studying what our new identity in Christ really is and how we should walk in that identity. The bible says to clothe yourself in Christ. That we need to take off the old self and put on the new self. This is an area where the devil would love to keep us thinking in the old ways. He wants to remind us of our failures and keep us from claiming all the promises God has for us.
So today I have a challenge for you. Read Romans 8:16-17 and really let it sink in: 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Claim your kingdom identity. Start walking in your true selves as children of God and co-heirs with Christ!
