Freely Give

Many times, we try to give out of empty cups. This tends to work for a little while, but eventually we burn out and become resentful of those we are trying to love. Yet over and over God calls us to love. How can we follow this command?

If you read our devotion from Tuesday, we suggest that the way to initially get love is to spend time with God – personal devotions, worship, and prayer. This is how we get love in our cup to begin with. In our post from Wednesday, we discuss that the way to grow love and how to learn to love well is through working on our relationships with our fellow believers. As we mature in loving others, our ability to use the love we have multiplies. And today, we want to point out that God’s love economy is not like our financial economy. It doesn’t make sense to our materialistic mindsets, but when we give love away, we don’t lose what we have. We don’t have any less for having shared. Many times, we are blessed in the giving more than the person receiving the gift or act of service. When we obey God and give from a cup that is overflowing because He is filling it and we are using it wisely, then we are able to freely give what we have been freely given (see Matthew 10:8). We are able to give love away without holding back and without burnout.

This is the backbone of Active Love Church, our tagline is Get It – Grow It – Give It. We want to help everyone ensure they are working in each relational area – with God, with church family, and with the world. We believe that when we balance these areas we will be blessed, we will bless each other, and we will bless the world.

Our next “Give It” opportunity is Sunday at 2pm. We will have part of our group volunteer at the McGregor Food Pantry monthly distribution while the rest pack stoplight bags for our door to door ministry. Come join us as we love our city!
