James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
We are in the season of gift giving. We go a little crazy thinking of all the people we feel we should buy gifts for and whether we are spending the right amount on them and whether a gift card is ok. We feel pressured to buy just the right thing and hope that the recipient will like what we got them. We feel joy when we give a present to someone we love and they are thrilled with it. We feel sad if one of our picks doesn’t go over as well as we hoped.
Can I tell you something about our God? He is a good father. He gives good gifts. In fact, the bible says that every good gift is from him. He has control of the storehouses of heaven and he wants to share them with you. He has joy when we accept the gifts he offers us.
Jesus tells us how good God is at giving gifts in Matthew 7. 9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
God gave us everything we needed at creation. Then when things got messed up he gave us everything we needed to fix our problems when he sent Jesus. John 3:16 reminds us how much he gave. And now, even though we have everything we need, God will give continue to give us abundantly more than we could ever imagine as we follow and obey him. He is a God who loves, and love gives!
